Daft Punk – Daft Club

I am not sure how I feel about this album. It's interesting. Not Daft Punky is the best way to describe it.

Great sounding terrible album. Actually considered seeing how it sounded as a frisbee, but that would be a crime against vinyl.

The notes of this release are wrong, this is 150g vinyl, not 180g.
Album is laughably bad but I only own it solely for the collection.
Absolutely disappointing that Aerodynamite isn't on the vinyl release.

Pressed at MPO. Glossy, single pocket jacket with two 150g records in white poly-lined paper sleeves. My copy is pressed flat, centered, and has no surface noise. Sounds really good.

wow, crazy prices for a really mediocre record with crappy remixes....

Pressing is fine, nothing remarkable or special but it sounds fine and plays well. Shame that Aerodynamite is not on the vinyl releases as that’s the best track on the compilation. But outside of The Neptunes remix on there’s nothing that great here. Unless you’re a mega fan you can probably on this.

Ah the infamous Daft Club. Definitely one of, if not the most, hated Daft Punk releases. But to be completely honest, I don't think this release is terrible. It's not amazing, but not as bad as people make it out to be (in my opinion). It was originally a free on the daft club site back in 2001, that was accessed with the daft club card packaged with some copies of Daft Punk's Discovery album when it was first released.

The compilation begins with Ouverture, which makes for a pretty decent opening. Next is Aerodynamic (Daft Punk Remix), and to be honest I think this particular remix is overrated. Don't get me wrong it's good, but I feel they could've done a bit more with it. It begins with a cool mashup of the One More Time vocals over the ladder half of Aerodynamic. After that though it's just an extended version of the original, with a few additions added at the 3/4th point.

Next is Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (The Neptunes Remix), which is kinda boring, but not the worst thing here. The Phoenix remix is...strange. It begins with this terrifying distorted vocal sample before going into a really average beat. I like the wind instrument (sorry I don't know it's name) but the rest is just bad. There are better remixes of tracks from the Homework album that could've been included instead. Jess & Crabbe's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger remix and the two Face to Face remixes are actually very good. The Digital Love Boris Dlugosh Remix however is just lazy. It's basically just the original but with a few chops towards the middle and a mediocre beat added to the beginning and end of the track.

The Aerodynamic Slum Village remix is okay, just not for me. Gonzales' version of Too Long is excellent. Definitely one of the best tracks here. Aerodynamite is also really good. It was originally released as a B-Side on the Aerodynamic single. Something is an unnecessary inclusion. It's the same as the original but without the intro and outro. The Japanese version of Daft Club contains a bonus track: Dominique Torti's Wild Style Edit of Voyager. Unlike Boris' Digital Love "remix", Torti does a lot more with it's source material (chopping the track up in a cool, creative way, and also adding a couple sound effects. Very good edit).

Overall, Daft Club is good. Not amazing, but not terrible either. I'd recommend giving it a listen, but I'd skip over the less good remixes.
