Archie Shepp – Kwanza

Mine sounds great. Never heard of the artist before. Bought it on the strength of the label and cover design. Love Back Back and Slow Drag. Mad repetitive melodies.

I am spinning it now. Sounds great. RKS did a great job as usual. It’s not Tone Poet but vinyl arrived flat, clean and quiet.

Sounds energetic - no ticks, pops or noise. Maybe that the mastering is a over the top, but that has likely more to do with the ‘free funky’ type of jazz.

After the pretty bad reviews here I was pleasantly surprised. After an ultrasonic cleaning it sounds great. I like the music very much, very uplifting. I bought it very cheap from imusic it was on sale.

Sounds OK. Of course the music is good, but does this sound amazing? I'm not so sure. Will update my review after some repeated listening. But certainly poorly presented. Vinyl looked like it had been pressed in a used vacuum cleaner bag and was covered with fingerprints. Do not buy this pressing unless you have access to a wet / vacuum cleaning machine. Seriously.

What's the point of paying one of the top jazz mastering engineers around (RKS) to remaster this record and then cut corners on everything else (jacket, inner sleeve, pressing, etc) to end with a disappointing product?

Keen to hear about the sound of the pressing as opposed to how dusty the paper inner makes the vinyl? Anyone?

Overall it’s not bad but don’t expect Tone Poet kind of quality

Mine had crud all over it. Not just paper flakes and dust I'm pretty sure I distinctly see fingerprints. Someone must have told jack white that Roosevelt Sykes used to rub his fingers all over his records or something and jack was like damn dogg that makes do much sense we gun do it that way too.
