Man it feels weird reviewing a record I bough new in 95 just as I started to mix. Damn MASHED POTATOOOOOOZ hooked me while digging for my sounds.. I am ashamed of the condition of it now and how much I abused this record. It got tons of play and then eventually just got kicked around my collection with no care for so long. A couple years ago I cleaned it up and put it back on the decks after a over a decade of being completely ignored. Its hard to add to what has been said by all I will say is this was brilliant fun and dark back then and more so today.

So was this ever released on CD or as a vinyl-only release?

I love this EP. In the ginger wizards release history you can mark this as the turn away from the ambient techno of his didgeridoo era, to the drill and bass of the coming millennium. His mate Luke Viberts releases under his Plug moniker are the obvious influence here, of which the first two Plug EPs had already been released in the months before HAB in 95. Anyone that loves this should definitely check that out as well.

I finally got myself a copy of this precious EP--came in the mail today. Everything on here is pure AFX nostalgia. 'Children Talking' and 'Laughable Butane Bob' are standout tracks, in my opinion, though the entire EP is classic material from a curious liminal period in which analogue techno was under serious attack by digital pioneers. This EP is testament to the genius that can be done by way of the old tools.

These tracks were released digitally by Warp on bleep.com for a limited time, until Richard James made them delete them. They are denoted from bootleg recordings by their VBR bitrate, and copyright info in the ID3 tags.

IMHO it's the best release from AFX. Excellent twisted & teared beats with ambient melodies - brilliant mixture. Titled track is a true masterpiece - dark, atmospheric drill'n'bass with some great ambient chords always impress me. One of the best Richard works at all. Another great track is next "Laughable Butane Bob" - I love moment when it how it "explodes" with percussion. Other tracks are also very good (I'm in love with that african drums in "Wabby Legs" :)) and a release as a whole seems to be one of the most desired Aphex stuff now! When CD re-release? I can't wait!

I like this funny track "Children Talking", most of us knows the feeling, when we were young and our parents wanted you to eat something we hate, again and again. Is that a kind of humourous work of a part from Richard's childhood? Anyway, that's why I love this EP too!

This really is the best. From the dark abstract twisted ambient of "Hangable Auto Bulb" to the brilliant melodic masterpiece of "Laughable Butane Bob" this release never fails to impress and is gonna be very important in music history I think.
