What Time Is It? is the second full-length studio album by The Time, and was released in August 1982, 13 months after their first album The Time.
Like the previous album, What Time Is It? was largely written, recorded and produced by Prince, and contained no input from band other than Morris Day on drums (tracks 1, 4 and 5), although all band were credited.
Four of the six songs were credited as written by The Time and two by Morris Day, but Prince wrote all six songs (with lyrics on Wild And Loose written by Dez Dickerson).

This remaster sounds like it's from a CD. No dynamics. Sounds very muffled. A/B to the OG it's not even close -

This is one of my all time favorite albums. This is Prince working his magic at the height of his powers.The sound on this record is great but unfortunately the vinyl of my pressing at least is very noisy. It’s been cleaned ultrasonically multiple times and no difference so it’s inherent in the vinyl. -
Do not buy this CD. The mastering is horrible. It is brickwalled with more than 5 dB of gain. Please see the dynamic range database for further details. -

I'm often pretty OK with the sound of CDs from the 80s, but this one is really dull. It's quite veiled and distant. Not a recommended mastering; hopefully some other CD master beats this one. -

I am glad I didn't get put off by the previous comment because apart from the fact that the music on it is amazing, the press quality is up there too. Flat, quiet, no sibilants on mine. -

Not entirely impressed with this reissue.
While the vinyl itself is very quiet and clicks-free, the sound seems to be quite muffled and lacking in definition. The record is full of dirty sibilants and not a big fun to listen to.
I've been expecting more, honestly.

"The Walk" is pure entertainment. Great hooks and a groove that you can't help but dance to. What's more is that Vanity (aka Denise Matthews - RIP) provides co-vocals, a rare treat since her singing career was so short lived. This album was a genuine extension of Prince's 1981-1982 "1999" era. Great remaster too.
