Edited 2 months agoAlbum Revolution #3:
With two Platinum albums under their belts, "The Brothers Johnson" ("Louis" and "George Johnson") was able to BASK in their success...At the same time though, the Brothers were STILL HUNGRY, wanting to continue to FUNK the World UP (So to speak)!!!! So, with "Quincy Jones" still in the Producers chair (even though he was a VERY BUSY Fellow), "The Brothers Johnson" released their 3rd offering, "BLAM!!!"
"BLAM!!!" was the PERFECT Title for this t, because it BLASTED wherever it was played!!!
On this album, even though the "Brothers" still had their "Brothers Johnson Band" (including their Cousin, "Alex Weir" and "Richard Heath"), there was a ABUNDANCE of help from artists like, "Richard Tee", "Harvey Mason", "David Foster", and "Ashford & Simpson"....That makes sense, understanding that "Quincy Jones" was the Producer...
With that said, the album starts with the ULTIMATELY FUNKY, "Ain't We Funkin' Now"....Yeah, SERIOUSLY!!!! There is really no other way to explain this one!!!! It is "FUNK 101" with the "Louis Bass" POPPING you IN THE FACE, and the "George Guitar" SWIMMING ALL OVER the Track!!! "Steve Schaeffer" also adds "Syndrums" to keep the "Funk" flowing!!!! As "Bootsy Collins" would say, "FUNK-A-WAY"!!!!
"So Won't You Stay" cools things down a bit...Written by "David Foster" and "Harvey Mason", this smooth and Groovy t continues to display the versatility of "The Brothers Johnson"....The Saxophone Vibe (courtesy of "Kim Hutchcroft") also add to the allure of the song....
The FUNKY and NASTY "Title Track", continues to make you believe that "The Brothers Johnson" was HERE TO STAY!!!!! Again, the "Funk" is PRONOUNCED, but it also has a smooth approach....The Synthesizers was FUNKY as well!!!!!
The 2nd side starts with the "Rocket Countdown / Blastoff" before it TAKES OFF into, "Ride-O-Rocket"....This is the second t that "Q" borrowed from "Ashford & Simpson" in this year, but this time "Q" brought it to the Brothers (the other BOMB was, "Stuff Like That")....This Spacey/Groovy/Funky t is the BOMB!!!!! With just about a "Choir of Vocals", and a GANG of Horns, you can't help but to feel like you are GETTING DOWN on that very Rocket!!!!!! Just Sayin'....
"Mista' Cool" though....BOMB!!!!!
Again, this is "FUNK 101"!!!! The "Louis Bass", the "George Guitar" with Keyboards and Horns HOVERING around them, PRICELESS!!!!!
"It's You Girl" is the other Cool Down t of the album....This has Cousin "Alex Weir" on a RARE Lead Vocal, so the Brothers could concentrate on the Bass and Guitar....This could also fit on a "Q" album, like "Body Heat" or "Sounds ... And Stuff Like That!!"...Just Sayin'....
The last t, "Streetwave" is a GREAT "FUNK 101" t, with a smooth touch....The Keyboards are HONESTLY the Stars here, but it NEVER takes away from the "Louis Bass" and "George Guitar"....This could also have been on a "Q" album, this time thinking about "Mellow Madness"....
Another Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Platinum Crown Jewel album....
This one was kind of strange though...Why? Because on this album, there were 2 Top "R&B" Hits, but no "POP" Hits, like "I'll Be Good To You" and "Strawberry Letter 23"...That meant that People didn't care about the Singles over the Album itself....THAT WAS A GREAT THING!!!!! If you go Platinum WITHOUT a "POP" Hit?!?!?!?, then You REALLY GOT IT!!!! That was "The Brothers Johnson"!!!!!
"BLAM!!!!" just CONTINUED to add to the Legacy that was NOW "The Brothers Johnson"...
PRICELESS!!!!! -
'Ain't We Funkin' Now' always been respected from all serious djs, in Italy a classic on funky afro dj sets, nowadays would highly recommend 'Streetwave' a jazz funk with really good vibes.

One of funk masterpiece . Brilliantly crafted by The Brothers Johnson with the taste maker man : Mr. Quincy Jones .
Listen to the Bass , Enjoy the Bad Ass muthafucka Bass . SNAP BLAM !
Ain't we funkin' now like you like it ... -
I definitely recommend this. I feel they really are full of it, because this pic disc sounds just as good as my black vinyl copy, minus a bit more noise.
