The Strokes – Room On Fire

for some reason on the bank it says between love and hate is on side a, however it is on side b. Weird!

Another great album by The Strokes. I love their unpolished, rapid-fire style - it’s refreshing against all the over produced, highly polished music out there.

This release is also very good from MOV. Sound is great, pressing is quiet, vinyl is flat. It’s not very dynamic due to the nature of the music (not sure it is supposed to be), but I have no issues with playback on my copy.

Happy to add this one to my collection.

I always thought the cold/little flat sound profile of this record is due to production. I even have the US release of this record on vinyl (the one pressed at United) which also has the same cold sonic profile.

I was dead wrong - while still sounding lofi, this version is much more alive, warm and dynamic. If you love this record, get this esp if sound is a priority. This one was pressed by Music On Vinyl (MOV) initially.

The US Blue version of this record used the United pressing stampers. I would avoid that.

Thought I’d revisit this and leave an update for fans interested in a good sounding version of this record.

I recently bought the Made in EU Blue version of this vinyl (make sure it has made in EU in the back cover as the USA version uses the same stamper as this pressing). The European version uses the MOV stamper (Music On Vinyl did a pressing of this sometime ago).

The sound quality of that is significantly better if not night and day differences. It still sounds lofi but with more punch, air between the instruments and natural vocal presence in the mix. The bass is significantly more punchy.

I might have been wrong thinking the extra compression was part of the production. The MOV version is just more dynamic and shows the mastering of this version was squashed.

I do not mean to say that this version is bad. In fact, I have enjoyed this version a lot. But if sound quality is your primary objective, try to get the pressing with MOV in the matrix.

non glossy copy, only includes an OIS. vinyl needed a good cleaning but sounds great after.
