This may just be my perception but the version of Hold Back The Rain on this 12" is the one to have over the Carnival (US) version. The drums, synths, and vocals are much more upfront compared the the mixes on Carnival.
It's the David Kershenbaum remix (with maybe an extra 8 beats at the beginning?) but the mixdown on this one has more of a 'rock' edge, which IMO is what makes the track truly shine. -

Strange that pretty much the same disc is worth more in a plain black generic sleeve, than in the picture sleeve of this version.
-
Save a Prayer great, Hold Back the Rain even better, I don't know of a better b side ever. Also this extended remix is better than the original, shorter version, which is mostly not the case,

Save A Prayer is of course a classic 80's synth pop ballad. But do not forget to flip the record over to the b-side...
Hold Back The Rain.
Pure, unadulterated Duran Duran at their fast paced New Wave best! So well produced (of course), but also so melodic and irresistibly catchy.
Some other bands may have put Hold Back The Rain as the a-side, as good as Save A Prayer is. Indeed, some other bands would have just put an instrumental on the b-side and kept Hold Back The Rain for a future single.
It's that good. Total single material. But such was the rich power of Duran Duran's songwriting during this period, it's relegated to a b-side.
Check it out! -
Still cant believe they didn't make this the full video version. This is actually shorter than the album version???
