This CD has just sold on ebay uk (8/4/24) for the princely sum of £841.00. The seller hasn't re-listed it yet, so it looks like the sale was final.

Now 4 was released in November 1984, a week before Band Aid in fact
Record 1 Side 1
1. Paul McCartney - No More Lonely Nights (Special Dance Mix):
2. Giorgio Morder with Philip Oakey - Together In Electric Dreams: Great collaboration, often mistaken as a Human League song.
3. Bronski Beat - Why: Great follow up to 'Smalltown Boy'.
4. Limahl - The Never Ending Story: This should have been put next to 'Electric Dreams', it's another Moroder composition. Classic film theme.
5. Nick Heyward - Warning Sign: Great song from the Haircut 100 singer.
6. John Waite - Missing You: Great song.
7. Michael Jackson - Farewell My Summer Love: Like the story behind this song.
8. Lionel Richie - Hello: Should have been on Now 3, as it's from March/April, but it's a classic song.
Record 1 Side 2
9. Culture Club - The War Song: Another catchy song from Boy George and co.
10. Elton John - engers: Great song from Elton.
11. Julian Lennon - Too Late For Goodbyes: Great song from John Lennon's son.
12. The Style Council - Shout to the Top: My favourite Style Council song. Love the strings.
13. Thompson Twins - Doctor! Doctor!: Great song, but should have been on Now 2 as it was released in January.
14. Heaven 17 - Sunset Now: Another
15. The Kane Gang - Respect Yourself: Great cover.
16. Tina Turner - Private Dancer: Great song, written by Mark Knopfler.
Record 2 Side 1
1. Queen - It's a Hard Life: Freddie's single from 'The Works'; great song.
2. Status Quo - The Wanderer: Great cover.
3. Big Country - East of Eden:
4. U2 - Pride (In the Name of Love): Great song from Bono and co.
5. Feargal Sharkey - Listen to Your Father: Great song from the Undertones singer.
6. OMD - Tesla Girls: Another great song.
7. Kim Wilde - The Second Time: Actually the first time Kim appeared on a Now album.
8. Nik Kershaw - Human Racing: Great song from Nik.
Record 2 Side 2
9. Ray Parker Jr - Ghostbusters (Searchin' for the Spirit): Iconic movie theme.
10. UB40 - If It Happens Again: Another great song from Robin, Ali and co.
11. Pointer Sisters - Jump (For My Love): Great song from the 84 Olympics.
12. Level 42 - Hot Water: Another great song.
13. Eurythmics - Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty Four): Great song from the film of the George Orwell novel.
14. Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me: Great Halloween song.
15. Malcolm McLaren - Madam Butterfly: Great synth version of the opera song.
16. Eugene Wilde - Gotta Get You Home Tonight: Pretty song.
Another great album, but there are still some songs that missed out:
Wham! - Freedom: Great song.
George Michael - Careless Whisper: George's first solo single.
Thompson Twins - Sister of Mercy: More recent than 'Doctor! Doctor!'
Black Lace - Agadoo: Classic party song.
Chaka Khan - I Feel For You: Great song, written by Prince.
Stevie Wonder - I Just Called to Say I Love You
Human League - Life On Your Own
Duran Duran - The Wild Boys -
Silly asking prices, I wouldn't pay a cent for this. The copy submitted on the database appears to have early rot. I wouldn't be surprised if most copies of this dies from rot within the next 5-10 years.
Copies sure love to change ownership. I've seen some CDs that probably had similar print run almost never appear for sale. (I'm talking about the French Eurodance singles released on Airplay, Panic, Flarenasch etc.)

Edited 5 years agoOriginally released as an LP/MC version: 26/11/1984. Maybe, the most 'out of the box' tracklist of a Now volume .... ever! Although containing, only, one UK chart-topper ('Hello' - Lionel Richie), it includes some of the most, surprisingly, memorable alternative hits of the mid-'80s: 'East of Eden' - Big Country, 'Pride' - U2, 'Listen to your father' - Feargal Sharkey, 'Tesla girls' - OMD, 'Sexcrime' - Eurythmics, 'Madam Butterfly' - M. McLaren, 'Sunset now' - Heaven 17, 'Shout to the top' - The Style Council etc. More alternative pop-oriented than mainstream, it is one of the most upbeat and interesting 'Now that's what I call music' volumes - the only drawback is that the creative department should do something about the fact that you need a magnifying glass in order to read the track information of the gatefold sleeve.

The 2CD version of Now 4 was released today. I have done a comparison with it and my original LP & CD. Here are the differences - some more obvious than others. If you notice anything else, please feel free to add.
Nick Heyward - Warning Sign (Now 4 LP has the 7" mix which contains two raps - at 2:07 and 2:55. This slightly shorter version doesn't)
Culture Club - The War Song (Album version used instead of 7" mix which was on Now 4 LP & original CD)
Style Council - Shout To The Top (Matches the mix used on The Singular Adventures Of which runs very slightly longer than the one used on Now 4 LP & original CD)
Thompson Twins - Doctor Doctor (Album version used. On the Now 4 LP & original CD it ran about 10 seconds shorter - possibly video version)
The Kane Gang - Respect Yourself (Album version used instead of 7" mix which was on Now 4 LP. Very obvious - 1 min 45 secs longer)
Big Country - East Of Eden (7" mix included here. The version on the original Now 4 remains unique - at 3:35 an extra chorus is sung instead of the instrumental break)
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Tesla Girls (Compilation version used - as on 1988's Best Of OMD. About 8 seconds longer than 7" edit on Now 4 LP)
Kim Wilde - The Second Time (Album version used instead of 7" mix which was on Now 4 LP. Quite a different beginning)
Eugene Wilde - Gotta Get You Home Tonight (Album version used instead of 7" mix which was on Now 4 LP. Very obvious - 1 min 45 secs longer)
It's good to see that the original CD should remain sought after given that it contains correct versions of three of the above tracks. -
I think that it's a scam of the label that re-pressing this CD. They bought all the 2nd hard copies and selling it here for high price to make people to buy the new release. Except for that it's noting special in this CD and I'll not buy it even for 1$

Most reference and history said Now 8 was the first one to be relessed on CD but Now 4 was the first CD to be released but not commercially produced.

Edited 5 years agotrouble is like most very old discs (last a life time..mmm.....) this unfortunately was printed on the old Nimbus CD's and they used some dodgy lacquar right up to 1988 they went sticky getting a finger prints on these and wiping them away was a nightmare if not careful the whole top layer print would come away as an avid CD collector with experience with many types of pressings.
although not as bad as PDO they remedied this with a better formulation in the very late 80's and early 90's
when I was buying CD's I always hoped for DADC or Disctronics pressing back in the day ;)
