Paramount Theatre, Seattle

The Paramount Theatre is a 2,807-seat performing arts venue and theater located at 9th Avenue and Pine Street in Seattle, Washington, USA. The theater originally opened on March 1, 1928 as the Seattle Theatre with 3,000 seats. The Paramount was built expressly for showing film and secondarily, vaudeville. On March 14, 1930, after only two years in business, its name was changed to the Paramount Theatre to conform with the Publix Theatre chain's policy of giving the grandest of its theaters in each city that name.

On May 30, 1971, the theater reopened as Paramount Northwest Theatre. Ida Cole, a former Microsoft executive, purchased the Paramount Theatre on February 8, 1993 and embarked on a $37M renovation of the venue; it reopened as The Paramount Theatre on March 16, 1995. As of 2009, the Paramount is operated as a performing arts venue and theater, serving a diverse patron base that attends Broadway theater, concerts, dance, comedy, family engagements, silent film and jazz.

The theater was placed on the National of Historic Places on October 9, 1974. It is also an official City of Seattle landmark.
