The roots of the company were established as a non proprietary company in 1925, in Sydney. In 1926 established the first recording studios in Australia at their Homebush factory.

In 1931 The Gramophone Co. Ltd. (2) are brought together under one istrative control with the record production plant of both companies being centralised at Homebush. During the war years the Homebush factory undertook extensive work on electronic devices for the Australian services and the output of the factory provided an important contribution to the Australian defence effort. 

In 1948 proprietary company E.M.I. (Australia) Pty. Limited is formed to takeover the activities of these two branches and becomes the principal company behind Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. Australian operations.
