He composed for theatre, film and was an authority on liturgical music. He co-wrote the music with Armando Loredo for Pinocchio (1939).
Von Ottenfeld was awarded a doctorate in music by the University of Montreal for his symphonic choral composition "Genesis", written in 1938 for the San Francisco World's Fair.
He owned Vona Records out of Hollywood, California and Vonna Productions, Inc. (aka Vona Productions) out of Los Angeles. In 1950, he was the musical director of Christian Films.
